I will not be defeated!
The grad adviser and counselors could not fix the 2 units I need to graduate which were part of the 17 unit deduction. I'm going to make one more attempt to get this fixed otherwise I will *crosses fingers* do a late enroll in a directed study class for 2 units. This is only a option because my professor offered to do this for me. I am going to buy that man a tickets to a bollywood (sp?) theatre (he loves bollywood fims). Still haven't sold the Toyota nor the Honda. Hopefully by next week. *crosses fingers again* I was suppose to go to a footnight party tonight but the shoes I wore today ripped up the bottom of my foot. I'm attempting to use superglue to seal the cut and if it works I'm out the door. I'm on the verge of so many things right now and life keeps throwing more obstacles at me. I'm determined to not let these things get the better of me. I will come out on top!

"Some Detainees Are Drugged For Deportation"
I really hate to turn into a news filter but I cannot help it. I am so angry after reading this Washington Post article that I can't even believe it. Immigrants that are working within the legal system are being treated worse than we would treat animals. People being intimidated, threatened and assaulted during appeals. During deportation, they've been forced to take psychotropic drugs that last for days at the doses being administered. Some of these people are being deported to countries where they will be imprisoned or murdered; this is why they came to the United States to petition for asylum in the first place and even if we reject their plea to stay, is it right to send them to their death or imprisonment? What can we actually do to stop this? Judge order after judge order is ignored. The system isn't working, it's broken down, it's crossed too many lines. I am so upset after reading that article. I just want to find the people responsible and expose them. When I showed the above article to a friend in Argentina, he responded with: Is that how close we are to the brink of insanity? That we as Americans can defend ourselves by saying: "We, at least return them by plane?" This isn't the America I grew up in. What happened to this place? Why is this happening? How can anyone stop it? What can I do? |

Vista
Originally published at Unabashed. You can comment here or there. I hate you and I hate your big ugly head and I hate Windows and I hate Vista and you can shut up. Sincerely, Matt Mitchell P.S. Cram it. FYI: Vista actually takes longer to load than any Windows product ever. No matter how fast processors get, Microsoft always manages to find a way to dumb the speeds down with excessive code. And once again Vista has spontaneously deleted a document I was working on right off the hard drive. I had a backup copy this time (and a printed version, actually, but that’s a rare case) but this could easily have been the only one. This is the third or fourth time this has happened, and I’m in the process of d-loading OpenOffice right now. I’ve used it before and didn’t like it (like, ten years ago) but if it works and doesn’t delete my work irretrievably, then I’m switching. And I’m thinking really hard about either switching back to XP or just switching to another platform altogether. I’m so sick of Microsoft as a whole. The whole GDFAM (just consider that an expletive of ginormous proportion) company, from the CEO down to the creepy little lady that cleans the toilets. P.S.S. Microsoft:
Suck it! |

It's been a good day...
My friend Michelle has this new boyfriend and he's in a rock/punk band. I got the cd this week and today I've been playing the fucking thing non-stop while I blasted out a bunch of design work for the new tv programs. 30 Second Crash. Check them out on myspace. Good solid tunes, and this guy is dating the right girl, because Michelle is "Wicked Dirty!" I'm in a good mood. Things are rolling along in their own time. I had some really good phone calls today and I've got a guy bringing me a movie next week to talk with us about cutting it. Lots of easy going good news and a very productive work day. It was good to blast out the tunes and go to some graphic design work. Tomorrow is my shoot. Should be fun for the whole family. I've got some really cool folks dropping in for the shoot, and it's not too late to email me about it if anyone in the LA area wants to get in on this. Rolling lean and mean kids, lean and mean... |

Joe McNally @ Google
So Joe McNally came to Google today. I've had the pleasure of seeing much of his work before and being involved at Photoshop World previously. His talk today was fast, a solid hour going from story to story in relation to photos. If you haven't seen Joe's work before, he's a bit of an extremist. He does great work, started as a journalist major and fell in love with photography. He's know to do the projects no one else wants to do. Check this out...
This is when he climbed the communication tower on top of a skyscraper in New York, I believe it was one of the twin towers. He says, "you need to do that at least twice...once because, and second to be sure." He was a great speaker...he called his style of working that of a generalist. I could believe it, he has done such a huge variety of work that it's amazing to realize that it's actually one person. Tops of towers, underground, you name it...he's been there for the past 30 years. I like his boldness, and I like how he described being a family man even though he's on the road so much...that seemed to pluck a string in my heart, or maybe it's an itch I can't seem to scratch enough.
He's done a lot of pictures of celebrities over the years, Fiona Apple, President Ford, the list was endless. Many died shortly after he'd taken their last "official" portrait sitting. I liked his story about James Brown though, which this shot was from.
Joe walks into room where James brown is sitting..."Hi, I'm James Brown."...Joe, "I know." like how would you not know who James Brown is right? Apparently he was a very nice man, peaceful and gentle. When Joe started taking pictures he got about 12 shots in the whole time James was trying to be sociable. James says, "I thought, you were a nice man." And with that, Joe knew the shoot was over. He took a few closeups and called it a day. It was great hearing the stories and seeing them as supplements to the work and having them put in context. I definitely recommend his book, the Moment it Clicks for any aspiring photographers out there. Good times... |

Same-sex marriage okay!
In California, and in our lifetime the rest of the country But it didn't take this fucker long: California Rules in Favor of Same-Sex ‘Marriage’; The California Supreme Court ruled today that a law defining marriage as the union between one man and one woman is “unconstitutional,” allowing same-sex couples to marry within the next 30 days. The ruling struck down Proposition 22, a voter-approved statute protecting traditional marriage. Dr. James Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family, is outraged by the court’s blatant disregard for marriage and the voters of California. “The will of the people has now arrogantly been declared null and void,” he said. “In so doing, the justices have undermined and endangered the basic building block of society, which has been honored and preserved in every nation on earth through most of human history.”
