Movie night...

Had to wonderful pleasure of watching two as-yet-unreleased films the other night: ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE and WRISTCUTTERS: A LOVE STORY.

I had heard plenty about both these films over the past few years, so it was nice to finally see them.

MANDY LANE. First thing of note is the better-than-average cinematography. That caught my eye. As did the stunning lead who plays Mandy. The movie opens up pretty predictably and quickly falls into a by-the-numbers second act. It's definitely not the movie I would have made given the setup. HOWEVER, when everything comes together in the third act, it almost ALMOST makes up for the rest. It reminded me a bit of the first SAW, in the way that the story structure plays out. Not the "twist" per se, but just that the predictableness of the second act is purposeful as a way of misleading the audience.

WRISTCUTTERS. Wow. By the time we got to this one, I was MORE than a little Unsober(tm). I knew very very little about this movie and so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Very quirky movie. Definitely on it's way to being a cult film. I liked it a lot. It's definitely one to see to understand. And hey, it's got Tom Waits in it, so that's always a plus.

What do you mean as-yet-unreleased films...as in on DVD? I saw it in a theater in February and since then my boyfriend is now obsessed with Gogol Bordello ;p

You're lucky then. Mandy Lane hasn't been released anywhere that I know of and Wristcutters, i believe, had a very tiny theater run but still isn't on DVD.

I saw it at my school's movie theater though so maybe they have the indie hookup. [plus it was freee] I even got a huge ass poster that I really have no idea what to do with.

I haven't heard of Mandy Lane though..I'll need to save it on my list.

Yeah, I was very interested in seeing Wristcutters, specially after hearing Tom was in it. Now I'm super excited to get my mitts on the DVD whenever it comes out. :D

We watched Wristcutters the other night too! It was a weird one, but I think Shannyn Sossamon is pretty, so it was a must see. I'll have to check out Mandy Lane.

:D

I've come into a position to produce some horror/suspense orientated television programming for Europe. I've been putting together an interesting creative crew, I'd like to check what you're up to. You've written about this short you're working on, I'm looking for short film content, feature film content and a solid creative crew. No flakes. No prima-donna's. Just hungry talented motherfuckers who've paid their dues in the trenches, guys who make it happen on their own.

Give me a shout later this week, you're gonna love how this plays out. I'm putting together a whole lotta fun. Tell your friends that you think are reliable and capable.

Show me whatever you've got cut together.

Don't worry about the reel. I know talent when I see it. I know your photography very well (I've still got that Dark Angel cover you did that never got published), Seen some of the set design work, now I want to see where the directing is.

Wait until I tell you this deal. It's fat and it's sweet.
